Fascinator is a descriptive term used with this style of adornment. They aren’t really hats and rarely cover the whole head or offer any significant protection from the sun or elements, but they create a wonderful sense of whimsey.  Fascinators are like jewelry. They are meant to fascinate the wearer and attract the attention of others. Fascinators often incorporate elements of an event, an outfit, or personal charm. While smaller than hats, they take considerable time to construct with lots of hand sewing involved. Of course, the artistry that goes into creating the “fascination” of these small adornments is very involved.
